Space Saving
Sometimes it’s not necessary to relocate. Instead, you can rethink the way that you use your business premises if you’re running short of space.
Take desks as an example. You can restructure the way that desks are spaced or change the design, maybe to “L” shaped rather three sided “U” configurations. A forward thinking option is collaborative working, this is where desk space is shared between two or more staff and, of course, this instantly negates the need for so many desks. Google employees, apparently, work three to a desk. That’s a lot of floor space saved plus it has been proven to improve productivity, so why not give it a go?
Corner desks and foldaway desks are another space saving solution, the latter are perfect for field staff that pop in to the office occasionally, but don’t need permanent desk space. Staff that hot-desk can be given bench space rather than separate desks too.
Can your employees work from home? If they are based off-site, then they won’t need furniture so, like the hot desk users, they can have one of the smaller options for any time that they are on-site but otherwise not using the space. Remember that for each space saving desk, there’s a space saving chair to match. Desks with storage attached could save space if you have row upon row of wide shelving and storage cluttering the area.
Retailers know that office and workspace is often at a premium, so they have invented several reasonably priced space saving storage solutions, from filing rails, frames and trolleys to roll out shelving and corner tambour cupboards. Investigation will give you a firm idea of what your specific storage solutions are.
It’s also worth checking the legal requirements regarding physical storage of documents too, are you keeping paperwork that could be removed and destroyed? This should reduce the need for off-site storage facilities.
If there are large screens or partitioning that fractures the space in to mini offices, try removing some or all of them – the space will seem bigger and flow better immediately.
Cloud storage is a great way to store, maintain and remotely back up business data digitally and this data is made available over a network, namely the internet.
Options:
- Private cloud storage solutions are protected by the company’s dedicated firewall, this option is best for users who need more control over their data and customisation.
- Public cloud storage is offered by a service provider on a multi-tenant basis, hence the “public”. It is most suitable for unstructured data.
- Hybrid cloud storage is a combination of the above options with at least one private and one public cloud. For instance, archived data can be stored on a public cloud while active data can be stored on a private cloud. All can be scaled to meet your operational needs.
Just a little time, energy, thought and a small investment will save space, negate the need for external storage and reveal more capacity to you.
