O2

O2 are one of the longest running UK mobile network providers, having originally been known as Cellnet in 1985 when mobile telephone technology was cutting edge and new to the UK. In 1999, they were rebranded as BT Cellnet when BT acquired the 40% share, which had previously belonged to Securicor. The following year, BT Cellnet went on to launch the world’s first GPRS service allowing for a faster data transfer across the mobile network which allowed WAP services on mobile phones. Whilst nothing like Smart Phones of today, which could access the world wide web at the touch of a button, the first WAP services were innovative and allowed people to access emails on their phones, receive sports results, horoscopes, news headlines etc. GPRS also allowed people to send MMS messages such as photos from their mobile handsets.

In 2002, BT Cellnet's wireless division was spun to form mmO2 which was publicly known as O2. It was then acquired by Spanish company Telefonica in 2005. According to Ofcom, O2 has the highest level of customer satisfaction of any mobile phone provider, meaning you are in safe hands with them.
