EE have announced a complete recall of all of their portable battery chargers, known as EE Power Bars, after a number of reports of them overheating.
The Power Bar program started in April of this year. By August, there were already reports of burns caused by the batteries exploding or seriously overheating. The EE Power Bars were distributed for free to any customers who wanted one. They could be kept for an 18 month period before they would have to be returned to a store, though a fresh 18 month contract could then be restarted. Around 500,000 Power Bars are said to be affected and will need to be returned.
To make up for the recall, EE are offering a £20 voucher available for use on the EE accessories store.
The statement read:
“We’re recalling all EE Power Bars. This is just a precaution, but we want to make sure all our customers are safe.
If you have a Power Bar, you should stop using it straight away and hand it in to one of our stores.
We are taking this action because we are aware of a very small number of further incidents where Power Bars have overheated in circumstances that could cause a fire safety risk.
Keeping our customers safe is extremely important to us, and that’s why we’re taking this voluntary and precautionary action.”
