Top 5 Business Mobile Handsets
Smartphones have become an important aspect in business over the years. I remember when smartphones were first launched and the OS that started it all – Symbian. While Symbian may have died a death a few years ago, after a long drawn out process by Nokia it shook up the mobile market. Long gone are the days of mobiles with polyphonic ringtone creators and crude cameras, thankfully we no longer have to press the 7 button 4 times to get an S in our text messages and the world really is at our fingertips.
While the lines between business mobiles and personal mobiles have become blurred, leaving the market wide open, the biggest players seem to remain pretty much the same. We take a look at our top 5 business handsets and explain our reasoning, to help you decide which one is best for you.
iPhone 6s Plus
We begin with a handset that embodies everything many in business would desire; high quality materials packaged into a tactile easy to use device. The iPhone plus is a larger smartphone, which makes it perfect for opening, editing and creating documents on the go.
The Apple app store often receives apps before the Google play store, which makes it popular with those that like to have the newest apps and features on their device.
Apple have a fiercely loyal band of followers who would never dream of straying to the dark side of the android. Many of these will have multiple Apple devices, which makes the iPhone a sensible choice thanks to handy features and integration that make things nice and simple, you can even answer text messages and phone calls on your iPad, iMac or Macbook if they’re in the same building, which means never missing an important call running for the phone. It’s the little things! iCloud also makes it easy to access your files across devices quickly and easily.
Huawei P8
You may think that Chinese manufacturer Huawei are new to the market, you would be mistaken; they have been making mobile devices such as your mobile broadband dongles and handsets for years now, they’re just less well known here. That could all change with the P8.
The handset certainly looks and feels like a premium device with a metal unibody design and flat camera. The camera is impressive and the HD screen is nice and large, which makes it great for everyday tasks.
The fact that it’s running Android OS means that you can access all of your normal google accounts easily and integrate with them as you would with more well-known android devices, as well as having access to all the usual apps. One of the biggest selling points on this device will undoubtedly be the SD expansion slot, which allows you to upgrade the memory of the device as well as easily moving data through the use of an SD card. The big boys, Apple and the latest Samsung Galaxy have no SD card slots, which gives it the edge here.
Samsung Galaxy S6 edge
The smartphone battle has long been between the Samsung Galaxy Devices and the iPhone. For years, the galaxy devices, whilst good, just couldn’t match up to Apple’s design, often feeling like a cheap alternative to hold. Samsung have addressed this issue with the Galaxy S6 series of devices. The glass and metal body feel far more premium than its older siblings, but as mentioned above, Samsung has done away with one of their edges over the competitor with the lack of the SD card slot.
The S6 edge brings something different to the table, as Samsung like to do every now and again, with a dual curved display that wraps around each side of the device. Far from just looking pretty, this curved edge also brings in extra functionality such as call notifications where the edges, light up, notifications streams, easy access to favourite contacts and a night clock that opens a low light clock on the edge – no more squinting because the displays too bright.
As with previous Galaxy models, the S6 edge runs Android, which makes it easy to keep all your contacts safe and backed up with Gmail. This feature is also great when changing devices as you can import them again at the touch of a button. The device has a minimum 32gb memory, is quick and responsive and comes in a range of colours. If you purchase the edge over the standard s6, we recommend insurance as this screen and the slippery design make it more prone to breakages.
Nokia Lumia 950XL
If you are a loyal Windows phone user, the news you have all been waiting for is here! A flagship Windows 10 device is now available to pre-order for delivery at the beginning of December with the Lumia 950 and 950XL.
One of the Lumia’s biggest selling points has always been the camera and the 950XL doesn’t disappoint. It has a 20-megapixel pure view camera, which features a triple LED flash to make even low light shots look natural and true to colour. The app store may not be as good as Apple and Google’s, but for diehard windows fans that may not matter so much.
One of the most impressive features of this device is the ability to connect to the Windows display dock, which activates a feature called continuum that effectively turns your handset into a mini PC!
This handset looks and feels better than other Lumia’s on the market, which are essentially budget devices, and it also has an improved performance.
Vertu Aster
For those that value style over substance and have more money than they know what to do with, there is always the Vertu marque. Vertu luxury handsets have been around for some time now, they’re almost a well-kept secret for the elite.
The Aster deserves its hefty price tag for a number of reasons. The device has been handmade with premium materials such as calf leather and titanium with a sapphire crystal display, setting it worlds apart from mainstream manufacturers out there.
It runs a standard out-of-the-box version of android, which make it simple and easy to use. They have added a small menu of their own, which features what has to be the biggest selling point ever! The concierge service is so much cooler than Siri or Cortana. It literally is a concierge service, call it up and your wish is their command! These things do, of course, come with a hefty price tag. But if you’ve got the cash, then this really is the ultimate mobile status symbol!
